Yahoo! News - Lott: Rumsfeld Should Go, at Some Point

At some point? He should have been gone long ago with the way he's botched things. If this had happened under a Democratic President the Republicans would have been livid. But it seems some of them are coming around finally and seeing just what a mess he's made.

Besides his leaving would do wonders for the morale of the military, especially the Army.

Retirement!

Well, it's getting close. I had my retirement ceremony on Thursday. The movers come in on Monday and the family and I leave the UK on the 23rd of October. I've been in the Air Force for over 20 years now and have enjoyed my time. But it's time to go and start a new life. I'll always be "in" the Air Force though. Lots of good people who do what many don't. It's been my privilege to serve. I won't be officially retired until 1 February 2005 but no more work for me. I've slept better the last few nights than I have in years. :-)

Here's where and what I was doing last Tuesday night. It's always been my dream to see my favourite band live. I saw them last October at Magnumania which was awesome. But the Norwich show was my first full gig. I was as close to the stage as possible and wasn't disappointed. I saw them Friday night in London and it was just as awesome. What a way to finish up my time here in the UK. So let me just say thanks to Al, Mark, Harry, Tony and Bob for the fantastic show. Keep your nitelight burning!

20 years ago today I was just starting basic training. Funny how it seems like yesterday but then again it's been an entire life time. But now my time on active duty is getting short as my retirment date draws near I tend to be looking back at what I've done. I'm proud of my service but am looking forward to becoming a civilian. But somehow I doubt I'll ever be truly civilian. Either way it's been a fun ride.

Quoting the end of the story:

"While Great Falls chews on its defeat, the plaintiff Wynne seeks surcease. Her home has been vandalized nine times. Hoodlums have killed her cat and hanged its gutted body. Someone put sand in the gas tank of her truck. Townspeople have ostracized her. Even so, she comes across over the telephone as the most cheerful Witch I ever met. My acquaintance is limited, to be sure, but in this one I stand on the lady’s side."

Yeah, that sounds like the Christian and American thing to do to a fellow American.

ABCNEWS.com : Digital Cameras May Delete History

Months ago I made a decision to keep all the photos I take with my digital camera for many of the reasons mentioned in this article. They are snapshots in time that would be lost forever just because I didn't like them at the moment. How many of us have enjoyed the memories of looking at goofy photos taken years ago. The memories all flood back. Just because it's easy to delete them doesn't mean we should. It's part of our life, good and bad.

BBC NEWS | Politics | ID card plans 'badly thought out'

I still fail to see how mandatory ID cards will stop terrorists. What purpose do they serve other than for the government to keep track of your every move? Are foreign tourists going to be issued a temporary one to track them during their visits? Weren't the 9/11 hijackers foreign? Having an ID card wouldn't have stopped them.

I know this is being considered in the US also but I still have to ask why?

Number of teens listening to radio is plummeting

Vancouver

Interesting story but it's not the entire story. The plain fact is that radio stinks anymore. The take over by the large corporations and the fact that no matter where you go in the country you will hear the same old songs over and over makes it worse. Gone are the days of hearing something new. Playlists are all based upon focus groups and by the marketing department. Thank goodness for sites like http://www.live365.com where you can choose to hear something different.

Real shoots back at Apple, reaffirms commitment to Harmony

I understand Apple trying to protect their interests but this is the same reason they don't control the PC market. By refusing to let other's make compatible products they are going to get killed by Rio and all the other portable audio manufacturers out there. In 2 or 3 years the sales for Ipods will be anemic in my opinion. Guess they didn't learn from the early PC years.

...U.S. Is Nation of Bystanders in War on Terrorism

This article hits things right on the head in my opinion. This nation as a whole is not actively engaged or involved in the fight against terror or the war in Iraq. Only the few that elect to serve and their families are affected by what is going on. The rest care more about what's on TV and their favourite team than the men and women getting maimed or killed. A sad commentary.

This last week has been a doozy. My parents came in last Tuesday here to the UK to visit us and it's good to have them here. But last Wednesday I eneded up having to put my beloved dog Belle to sleep. She had been sick for about a month. The vets were stumped so they did some exploratory surgery. When they opened her up she was full of tumors and there was no hope of recover. I told the vet not to wake her up. I hated doing it but I didn't want her to suffer. She hadn't eaten in 3 days and was not doing well. Life sucks and I miss Belle.
